Torben turns 2 in a month, which I can hardly believe... when he was a tiny baby I couldn´t imagine him as a little kid and all of a sudden he´s a little boy and not my tiny baby any more! Whew does time fly! And he is such a funny little guy. He is in the midst of potty training and it is going well, he is out of his nappy all day and lets us know when he needs to go wees, so we put him on the potty and he does. And of course in his two-year-old mind, if Torben needs to go wee on the potty, then of course so does his bear, his car, and sometimes even the apple he is chewing on. And why not? Doesn´t everything need to wee? I think its so funny that he will hold his apple over the potty and say "apple pssssshh" (apple wee). Or do the same with his bear or his car. And they all sleep as well. He will be happily playing with his little blue car, then decide it is time for Car to have a nap, tip it over onto its side and say "car shhhhh" (his noise for sleeping - I really don´t know how to type it out). One time he put his bear up onto the couch, beat him with a cardboard tube until he was sure bear was dead, then said "bear shhhhhh".
Torben has also been learning what Big and Little mean. Yesterday at the barnehage (the playgroup Carl and I take both babies to two days a week), he held out two cars out to me, saying "Big Car" in his deep voice when he held out the big one, and then "little car" in a squeaky voice when he held out the little one. So last night before bed I put him on the potty before putting him in his nappy, and he said "no wees, no wees" when he first sat down, then looked suddenly surprised, looked down, and said "little wees!" and there was a tiny little dribble of wee in the potty. So the big/little concept goes for wees too!
And Ursa is officially the little household adventurer. That baby scares me, she is afraid of nothing. She is not quite crawling properly yet, she does do a couple crawls but then realizes she´s going too slow so she drops back down on her tummy and scoots around. She always uses the same side, she kicks off with her right leg and pulls herself forward on her right arm, while resting on her left arm. I think she is having problem properly crawling because she is always in big fleecy outfits because it is cold. However, despite the fact that she can´t crawl properly she has decided she is ready to walk! She is getting an awful lot of bumps to the head lately because she is pulling herself up onto everything. Whenever I turn my back she heads for the stairs and starts crawling up. She pulls herself up to standing position on anything she can get her hands onto; the window sill, the fireplace, the stairs, toys, couches, bathtub, toilet, chairs, everything is fair game. And she talks the whole time, squeaking and squealing and babbling to herself. She would make it all the way up the stairs if we didn´t stop her at the landing. She is so determined, its amazing to watch. She has such a different personality than Torben did at that age, he was much calmer and more interested in trying to figure out his toys than trying to climb up things! She is just interested in getting up on her feet. She hasn´t learned yet how to balance herself so she tends to tip over once she´s up (if we don´t rescue her in time), hence all the bumps on her head. She has quite a few bruises on her forehead now. This afternoon she was standing up at the window sill holding on and I was sitting behind her to catch her if/when she fell, and she turned to me, let go of the window sill and fell towards me trying to walk over to me!
The household renovations are almost done, the flat just needs the finishing touches and a bit of tidying up then it is ready to rent out, and the entrance and main floor of our part of the house has been all tidied up so it looks like a proper house and not a construction site! Just in time to start more projects, as we have a lot more that we want to do to the house. Or rather, there is a lot more that I want to do to the house... Luckily Carl likes to be busy.
Lasagne for dinner tonight, yum.
